Food and Nutrition (Ages 8-11)
The DETS curriculum includes K-12 units with lessons that are designed to enhance the understanding and appreciation of the problems of diabetes in Indigenous communities in the US.
A circular theme is used throughout to illustrate the contextual content of Native culture and provides a meaningful approach for students of all cultural backgrounds. Theme: Health is Life in the Balance
Nutrition curricula for K-7 - lesson plan topics include 'What is Diabetes?, 'Being Heart Smart', and 'Vegetarianism?'. Also contains manuals and toolkits, including 'Sugar Shocker'.
Curriculum based lessons for K -7, activities and resources focused on increasing vegetable and fruit consumption and reducing intake of sugary drinks and sodium.
