The DETS curriculum includes K-12 units with lessons that are designed to enhance the understanding and appreciation of the problems of diabetes in Indigenous communities in the US.
A circular theme is used throughout to illustrate the contextual content of Native culture and provides a meaningful approach for students of all cultural backgrounds. Theme: Health is Life in the Balance
Lesson plans and resources for K-12 on where food comes from, how it grows and how to prepare it. Lessons include: 'Stone Soup', 'Nourishing with Nursery Rhymes' and 'The Big Crunch'. Also available - Cooking and Tasting Educator's Toolkit
The First Nations Education Steering Committee's In Our Own Words curriculum contains a unit called Gifts from the Earth, which includes lessons on growing, measuring and preparing food. Unit 6 - The Power of Stories also has food and nutrition content.
